Michael’s Story

My name is Michael. I wrote letters to Quaker organizations around the United States about 10 years ago after being incarcerated for 8 years. I’d heard good things about the Quakers.

I like the way they emphasized kindness and simplicity and welcomed everybody. Being convicted of a sexual offense is a guarantee for social ostracism. I wrote probably 50 letters.

Gib was the only person who responded with an offer for friendship. To explain what a blessing it was to have someone to talk to on the outside who didn’t judge me and who didn’t act superior and who really seemed to care about me I can’t express / but Gib’s my family now and we are working to find a way to get me into broadcasting school when I get out so I can do what I always wanted to do which is have my own broadcasting company.
